New Lightning Claw Termie – WIP

This is my latest piece. It, like the last Terminator I did, is a conversion mixing the lightning claws from a Terminator Assault Squad set with one of the Terminators that came with the Black Reach boxed set.

I’ve just finished with the base coat of all the parts.

Old School Gallery Added

I have a few of my old school painted and un-painted minis still laying around, and I’ve taken photos of some of them. I’ve just added a gallery containing these photos, and I may add more later, to show you how my painting used to look, 10, 15, even over 20 years ago.

You can access this gallery page from the links under the banner at the top of the blog.

Genstealer “A”

(Miniature by Games Workshop)

Below is an image of this mini in the first step of the painting process, the final photo will be posted nearer the bottom of the post.

In case you are wondering, this is Genestealer “A” because I’m going to be lettering the bottom of the bases of all my Genestealers to keep track of them in game.

This is the first Genestealer I have attempted to paint from the new Space Hulk box. As you see it here, the Genestealer itself is not painted, only base coated. The metallic structure and base are the only thing that is worked on so far.

I’m not sure yet if I’m happy with it so far. I think this is going to be a fine gaming piece, but I’m not sure if I’ll go into too much work to make it a display piece.

As you see it, the colors used were-

From Citadel:

Boltgun Metal
Vermin Fur
Chaos Black
Dwarf Flesh
Bleached Bone
Badab Black Wash
Devlan Mud Wash

From Vallejo:

White

The mini was primed with black
For all the metal structure, I base coated the whole thing with a thinned mix of Boltgun Metal with a couple drops of white. Then I washed it with Badab Black.

Next I base coated the skulls with thinned Vermin Fur

Next I washed the skulls AND the metal with Devlan Mud.

Next I added one more drop of white to the thinned metal mixture and use this to very lightly dry brush the metal areas.

Next I dry brushed the skulls with Dwarf Flesh, then again with Bleached Bone. Then made one more Devlan Mud wash over just the skulls.

And finally I used some Chaos Black to touch up the areas of the base and the Genestealer that I got with the dry brush steps so I have a clean canvass to start with when I start painting the Genestealer.

Here is the Final

The Genestealer was painted using the following colors:

Citadel:
Chaos Black
Badab Black Wash
Asurmen Blue Wash
Enchanted Blue
Ice Blue

Vallejo:
Royal Purple
White

This was my first painting of a Genestealer (Well, since the early 90’s anyway), I was experimenting quite a bit and will definitely be changing my recipe for the next one cause I’m not all that happy with it, so I won’t be providing a step by step. Once I have my Genestealer recipe figured out, I’ll provide the step by step painting steps for it.
